The Big Sky Country in Montana is one of the last places in the Rocky Mountains West that remains surrounded by vast regions of unspoiled wild lands. Just 48 miles from Yellowstone National Park, the area boasts Lone Peak Summit at an elevation of 11,166 feet, Mountain Village at 7,500 feet, and Meadow Village at 6,200 feet. The Big Sky Ski and Summer Resort was founded in 1969 by the late NBC broadcaster Chet Huntley and a group of corporate investors. The area is secluded and peaceful with a year-round population of 1,245. It's a cool climate with an annual average snowfall of 400 inches.
In the winter there is great skiing and snowmobiling. The summers offer horseback riding, touring companies, whitewater rafting, kayaking, lots of wild flowers, as well as fishing and golf. Gondola rides in the summer offer spectacular views. Nearby Yellowstone National Park is the world’s first National Park, also the largest in the United States. There are also Lewis & Clark Trail sites, wilderness areas, historic towns, and more in the area. If you love the outdoors and breath taking scenery, this is a great place for a honeymoon, an ideal vacation of a lifetime.
