Long Island is a 100-mile island jutting into the Atlantic Ocean from New York State. This region, hosts over two-dozen wineries and vineyards on the East End's North and South Fork, also known as The Hamptons. Although the region is relatively young (the first vineyard opened here in 1975), the wines produced have won many national and international awards.
Combining age-old growing techniques with state-of-the-art technology, this region is becoming renown for its world-class Merlots, Chardonnays, and Cabernets. Currently, around 350,000 cases of wine are produced annually in this wine country.
Vineyards on the East End of Long Island offer tours, featuring rural scenery, wine tastings, and restaurants. Area events, include opera and jazz concerts, Sailor’s Ball, Antique Car Show, Olive & Olive Oil tastings, and many more are available from April through December each year. Each year, nearly half a million people visit the area. For a great weekend getaway, remember the Long Island vineyards.
The Long Island wine region is located just a short drive from New York City, New Jersey, and New England. Most of the wineries are located on the North Fork, East of Riverhead, NY.
