The first commercial winery in Napa Valley in California was established in 1861. By 1889, there were over 140 wineries in operation. Through the years, only a few survived the numerous obstacles and prohibition. Today there are over 200 world renowned vineyards. Climate and soil in this region contribute to the success. Primary industry is wine growing, wine production and tourism. Many tours are available by bicycle, balloon, limosine. In 1915, a Pullman dining and lounge car with a gourmet meal was restored.
