The annual Taos Solar Music Festival takes place the last full weekend in June (2008 festival begins June 27 and ends June 29) in Kit Carson Park, downtown Taos, New Mexico. By offical proclamation, Taos has been hailed as the solar capital of the world. The festival draws a good-sized crowd to this small community with national acts and new ideas and at the same time recognizes the ethnic diversity of the town. There is a great combination of good music, food, and interactive alternative energy displays along with scenic views. An extensive collection of displays and demonstrations of the latest in solar and renewable energy sources compliments the great variety of music that is in store here. Some of the past entertainters have included Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Rick Aragon, The Iguanas, William Topley, Lost at Last, Los Otros, Quetzal, Cabaret Diosa, Los Lobos, Robert Earl Keen, Peter Rowan, Sonny Landreth, Manzanares, Michael Hearne, and others.
