When you talk about Timberline, Oregon, what is typically mentioned is the great ski conditions, dry powder and wonderful people, but one thing you are also sure to hear is that Timberline is world-renowned for having a longer ski season than any other resort in the entire United States. Being farther north, Timberline is open for skiing for 12 months out of the year (as weather permits), only closing two weeks in September for maintenance. This means Summer Skiing! Located at 6,000 feet on Mount Hood in the state of Oregon, and within an hour of Portland, Timberline has been called the ski capital of North America. Timberline is rich in history and is looked upon as a national historic landmark - even part of the movie "The Shining" was filmed at the resort, chosen for it’s prime look and unique feel. Some of North America's earliest downhillers took to the slopes here in the first years of the twentieth century. It is also the location of one of the country's earliest chairlifts, built in the late 1930's. Timberline provides all the services that skiers could want: a complete rental/demo shop; the Timberline Ski School, prominent for having some of the best ski classes in the country; the nationally-acclaimed SKIwee program for kids, teaching children the essentials of skiing; half-pipes and a terrain garden for snowboarders; night skiing; a gift shop with Northwest items and top-of-the-line skiwear; and much more.
